But parents can also ensure that their children are free of lice. A simple examination with louse comb will reveal any eggs that might be lurking a child's hair. There are even electronic louse combs that emit a small beep whenever an egg or a louse is detected. An obvious other way is to check for bite marks on the scalp and the back of the neck. These bite marks are obvious is serious cases, but in less serious cases a careful inspection may be necessary.

For the most part a special shampoo and conditioner is recommended to get rid of the lice and their eggs. These shampoos seek to destroy the lice and the eggs and to make sure that they are removed from the head. Along with the shampoos, regular combing with a louse comb is necessary. This is to both remove any dead lice or eggs from the hair as a result of the shampoo and to remove any other lice and eggs that may be in the hair at the time. Bear in mind that there is no way that is 100% effective. Getting rid of lice and keeping them away can be an uphill battle especially in areas were infections are frequent.
